What
should I look for in an arborist?
We highly encourage
you to look for arborists certified through the International Society
of Arboriculture (ISA). This helps to ensure that they are adequately
trained and educated about current practices and up-to-date on the
latest tree care information. American Arbors is ISA certified
(TX3238A).
Additionally, we
strongly recommend you hire only crews that use ropes and saddles
in compliance with industry standards to work on your trees. This
is the only way American Arbors will work on a tree. We still
see some companies use ladders to climb trees in order to prune
them. This is a dangerous practice and a sure sign of an inexperienced
company and crew. During the trimming process, limbs from the tree
can fall and knock over ladders and cause serious injury to the
worker. In turn, this can potentially opens the homeowner up
to unexpected liability issues, which leads us to our next point.
Ensure your Arborist
carries adequate liability and workmen's compensation insurance.
Ask to see documentation of this insurance up front before you accept
any proposal from any company. American Arbor provides proof of
insurance up front during our initial proposal.
Also, ask your
arborist about their sterilization techniques. It is critical that
all tools are cleaned and disinfected at the end of each job. The
last thing you'd want is to have an inexperienced crew infect your
healthy trees with a disease from a previous client's trees. American
Arbor's sterilizes all equipment using a bleach solution not only
after each job, but between trees on the same job. In addition,
our work crews quickly and effectively remove all trimmed branches
from your property. And we dispose of all our tree trimmings in
environmentally responsible ways, ensuring one clients problems
don't become someone else's.
Ask if your arborist
will paint wounds on the tree caused by pruning. Research shows
that painting of tree wounds can actually impede the healing
process. So for most trees, painting of wounds can actually harm
the trees. The notable exception to this is on Live Oaks where a
thin coating of paint can provide a protective barrier against Oak
Wilt Disease which can be transmitted by insects attracted to the
scent of a freshly cut Live Oak. American Arbors paints Live Oak
wounds, but not wounds on any other tree species.
Without a doubt,
American Arbor Landscape and Tree Services provides excellent tree
care services for residential and commercial customers. Protect
the value of your property by hiring American Arbors to professionally
and affordably care for your trees.

Tree
Care FAQs
Will Ball Moss
kill my tree?
Ball moss is not
a parasite like mistletoe, and will not kill a tree. It is generally
found on dead limbs under parts of the tree's canopy. Pruning out
the dead limbs will typically remove nearly all of the moss and
improve the aesthetics of the tree.
Will Mistletoe
kill my tree?
Usually it will
not. It is a parasitic plant that robs your tree of its nutrients
and moisture. As it builds up on a tree, it can and will cause structural
damage to the overall strength of the tree and it's limbs. Mistletoe
is controlled using chemicals or by having it physically removed
from the tree. Left unchecked, Mistletoe will compromise a tree's
health.
Why should I
prune my trees?
Pruning your trees
has many benefits, among them it:
- Reduces damage to your
house/building from the rubbing of branches against the
structure.
- Improves the appearance
of the trees and the overall value of your landscaping
- Allows more sun light
for the plants and grasses below the tree.
- Removes damaged and diseased
branches that might infect other parts of the tree.
- Removes crossed branches
which can rub together forming wounds on the tree, leaving
it open to disease and insect infestations.
- Reduces the probability
of a falling limb injuring someone or causing damage to
your property.
- Removes the pathways for
insects and rodents from entering your home
